- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 cups bread flour

- 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings
- Your favorite pizza toppings (e.g., mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, fresh basil)
Instructions
Making the dough
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in olive oil, salt, and flour. Knead dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough and divide into 2 balls. Let rest for 15 minutes.
Making the sauce
- In a saucepan, combine crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Assembling and Baking the Pizza
- Preheat your oven to the highest temperature possible (usually 500°F or higher).
- Roll out one dough ball into a desired shape on a lightly floured surface.
- Spread a layer of sauce over the dough, leaving a small border.
- Top with your desired ingredients.
- Transfer the pizza to a pizza stone or baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Tips
- Use a pizza stone for a crispier crust.
- For a more authentic wood-fired flavor, add a sprinkle of smoked paprika to the dough or sauce.
- Experiment with different flour types, such as whole wheat or semolina, for variations in texture.
- Consider using fresh mozzarella for a richer flavor.
- Don’t overload the pizza with toppings. Less is often more.
Note: To achieve a closer taste of a wood-fired oven, you can invest in a home pizza oven or use a grill with a pizza stone attachment. These methods can generate higher temperatures and impart a smoky flavor to your pizza.
