- Cook time: 15 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup glutinous rice flour
- 2 tablespoons tapioca starch
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together glutinous rice flour, tapioca starch, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together milk and egg.
- Create dough: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a thick, sticky dough forms.
- Shape donuts: Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long, thin rope. Twist two ropes together to form a donut shape.
- Fry donuts: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Drain and coat: Remove the donuts from the oil and drain on paper towels. Allow them to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Tips
- For a richer flavor, use whole milk instead of skim milk.
- Experiment with different fillings or glazes for added flavor.
- Be careful not to overcrowd the frying pan when cooking the donuts.
If you have a deep fryer it can help regulating your oil temperature.
